Mystic Mudra… healthy skin

The more I learn about improving my health the more fascinated I become with the human energy field and how you can work with it to increase energy, vitality, and well-being.

In this month’s blog I want to look at the use of Mudra and how their use can help improve our skin.

What is a mudra?

A mudra is a spiritual gesture used in yoga and meditation. By placing your hands and fingers in specific positions you can help bring about physical and spiritual balance.

Mudras can also be used to help increase energy, focus, and relaxation. They are often used to aid in visualization and concentration.

In Ayurvedic practices all things are comprised of the five elements and these are represented in the hands.  Each of the elements relate to each other and when we touch the hands and fingers together in a certain way we trigger different combinations of the elements to aid in the balance and healing of specific conditions.

How can mudras help the skin?

Recent studies have shown that using mudras can be an effective tool for improving skin health. They can help to stimulate circulation and promote the release of toxins, while also promoting relaxation and reducing stress.

When practiced regularly mudras can help to improve the appearance of the skin and may even help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and blemishes.

Ten reasons to practice mudras for skin health…

  1. Mudras can help invigorate the skin, giving it a brighter, more radiant look improving the skins clarity and the complexion.
  2. They can help improve skin elasticity, making it more firm and supple helping to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
  3. Collagen is a key constituent of the skin, and mudras can help increase its production.
  4. Hormonal imbalances can lead to skin problems, and mudras can help balance hormones, providing relief.
  5. Proper blood circulation is key to healthy skin, and mudras can help increase circulation.
  6. Mudras can help detoxify the skin, removing impurities and leaving it looking refreshed.
  7. Mudras can help reduce inflammation, providing relief from skin issues like eczema and psoriasis.
  8. Stress can cause skin problems, and mudras can help promote relaxation (particularly when combined with meditation), helping to reduce stress-related skin issues.
  9. Good digestion is essential for healthy skin, and mudras can help improve digestion.
  10. Mudras can help boost the immune system, helping to protect the skin from disease and infection.

What Mudras are good for skin health?

Apana Mudra is use for purification. It helps to keep the skin clear and supports the excretion of waste through the skin in the form of sweat. It also supports good digestion which is important for skin health.

Fold the middle and ring fingers towards the thumb and touch all the tips together.

Varun Mudra stimulates the water element.  It supports good blood flow, keeping the skin and body hydrated and helps to remove waste from the body via the urine.

Place the thumb tip and little fingertip together and straighten the other fingers.  Place the hands in your lap.

Prithvi Mudra promotes cellular health and is said to help with the regeneration and repair of the skin.

Touch the tip of your ring finger to the tip of your thumb and hold comfortably in your lap.
