When Life Gives You Lemons – Getting Back On Track

We’ve all been there—life throws us a curveball (or as I like to call it – Gives us Lemons), and suddenly, we’re not doing the things we know are good for us. Whether it’s your face yoga routine, healthy eating habits, or self-care practices, it can be easy to fall off track when life gets in the way. But the good news? It’s never too late to get back on track and reclaim your well-being—without guilt, shame, or harsh self-criticism.

Why Do We Fall Off Track?

We’re human, and life happens. Stressful work weeks, family obligations, travel, or even just the sheer tiredness that comes with juggling it all can knock us off course. Sometimes, we might even find ourselves losing motivation, or worse, thinking we’ve failed. When we don’t see immediate results or when life presents its unexpected challenges, it can be easy to convince ourselves that we’ve failed in some way, especially when it comes to our health and wellness journey.

But the reality is that the road to a healthier lifestyle and holistic beauty is not a straight line. It’s more like a winding path, with ups and downs, detours, and even a few potholes along the way. Falling off the wagon is part of the journey—not a sign of failure, but a moment of growth.

Why Do We Beat Ourselves Up?

It’s common for women, especially those over 40, to hold themselves to high standards. We’re often taught that we must be “perfect” in everything we do: whether it’s our work, family life, or how we look. This mindset often spills into our wellness practices too. We might think that missing a few days of face yoga or indulging in a less-than-healthy meal means we’ve somehow “messed up” or that we don’t deserve to feel good about ourselves.

Here’s the thing: perfection is a myth. No one has it all figured out all the time, and expecting yourself to be perfect in your self-care practice will only set you up for unnecessary frustration and disappointment.

The truth is, you’re doing the best you can, and that’s enough. Life is all about balance, and there will always be moments where you need to recalibrate and adjust.

How to Get Back on Track with Face Yoga and Healthy Living

  1. Acknowledge and Accept: Start by acknowledging that you’ve fallen off track. There’s no need to dwell on it or judge yourself. Life happens, and it’s okay. Acceptance is the first step in moving forward.
  2. Shift Your Mindset: Rather than seeing this as a setback, think of it as a learning opportunity. Ask yourself, “What can I take away from this experience?” Maybe it’s recognizing that you need to create more space in your routine for self-care, or that a small tweak to your approach could make all the difference.
  3. Start Small: If getting back into your face yoga or healthy habits feels overwhelming, start small. Begin with just a few minutes a day of face yoga, or add one healthy meal into your week. Starting small helps build momentum without feeling like a huge task. It’s the consistency over time that brings results, not perfection. For more on this, take a look at my blog “Small steps to a health lifestyle”.
  4. Forgive Yourself: Self-compassion is key. Understand that taking care of yourself is a journey, not a destination. Be kind to yourself and stop the cycle of negative self-talk. You’re not defined by a missed workout or a couple of days off your routine.
  5. Set Realistic Goals: Be mindful of setting goals that are achievable and sustainable for your lifestyle. When life gets busy, a complex routine might feel like a burden. Keep your goals simple and flexible—your practice will grow along with you.
  6. Celebrate Your Wins: Every time you show up for yourself, celebrate it! Whether you’ve done 5 minutes of face yoga or enjoyed a nourishing meal, acknowledge those moments. This positive reinforcement will help you stay motivated and reinforce your commitment to yourself.

How to Stop Beating Yourself Up

  1. Challenge Perfectionism: Recognize that striving for perfection only creates stress. Embrace the idea that your best is enough. Aim for progress, not perfection.
  2. Focus on the Journey, Not the Destination: Instead of thinking about the end result (whether it’s perfect skin or a super-healthy lifestyle), focus on the enjoyment of the process. Enjoy the little moments, like how good your face feels after a face yoga session, or the satisfaction of making a nourishing smoothie.
  3. Practice Gratitude: Gratitude helps shift our mindset from what we haven’t done to what we have done. Be grateful for your body, your effort, and the little wins along the way.
  4. Get Support: If you feel yourself slipping into negative self-talk, reach out to someone who can support you. Whether it’s a coach, a friend, or a community (like our beautiful group in The Glow Club), talking through your feelings can be a powerful way to gain perspective and encouragement.

In Conclusion

Falling off track with your face yoga or healthy lifestyle doesn’t make you any less worthy of the self-love and care you deserve. It’s simply a part of life’s ebb and flow. Be gentle with yourself, stay consistent, and remember that every small step you take is part of the beautiful, ongoing process of honoring your health and well-being.

So, when life sends you lemons, don’t just make lemonade—use them as a reminder that your journey is about progress, not perfection. And above all, be kind to yourself as you continue moving forward, one small step at a time.
